Aim: To investigate how the pressure of a fixed mass of gas at constant volume varies with temperature

Results Table

Temperature / °C Pressure / kPa Delete
  1. Set the bath temperature to 20 °C and wait for the pressure to stabilise. Record the temperature and pressure.
  2. Increase the temperature in steps of approximately 10 °C. Each time, wait for the needle to stop moving before recording.
  3. What do you notice about the relationship between temperature and pressure?
  4. Plot a graph of pressure (y-axis) against temperature in °C (x-axis). Does the graph pass through the origin?
  5. Now plot pressure against temperature in Kelvin (add 273 to each °C value). What is different about this graph?
  6. What does the x-intercept of your pressure vs °C graph suggest about the temperature of absolute zero?
