Boyle's Law — Pressure & Volume
Investigate how changing pressure affects the volume of a gas. Move the pump handle down to increase the pressure. Press the Release button to reduce the pressure. Use the Graph Builder to plot your results.
Data Table
| # | Pressure (kPa) | Volume (cm³) |
|---|
- Set the pressure to 100 kPa. Read the volume from the graduated tube and record both values.
- Pump the pressure up to 200 kPa. Before you read the volume — predict what you think it will be. Then record the actual value. Were you right?
- Record at least 6 pressure/volume pairs across the full range of the gauge.
- Plot a graph of Pressure against Volume. Draw a best fit curve.
- What pattern do you notice between pressure and volume?
- What does this pattern tell you about the relationship between pressure and volume?
